Mike Straus
Founder & Editor-in-ChiefMike has been an avid gamer for as long as he can remember. Growing up with the games, consoles, and gaming culture of the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s sparked a lifelong fascination with the stories behind the games that shaped a generation.
In 2026, he founded Respawn Magazine to celebrate gaming history through thoughtful journalism, in-depth features, and conversations with the people who helped build the industry. His goal is simple: preserve the stories, memories, and cultural impact of video games for future generations.
Outside of Respawn Magazine, Mike is a veteran journalist and freelance writer with more than 15 years of experience. His work has appeared in publications across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, covering topics ranging from technology and engineering to health, safety, and business. At Respawn Magazine, he brings that same commitment to quality storytelling to the world of retro gaming.
